In the Celtic world nature herself was a sanctuary, and everything about her was ascribed a magical and religious meaning. The woods, springs, paths, rivers were sacred, as were the animals and - whether they were real or mythological, wild or domesticated - each one of them brought their own magical qualites to the life-cycle.
